Jane Austen is a "happening writer" as she reflects the glorious side of Domestic England. The folks she describe in her stories remain immortal. The spirit of each and every person in her story travels with the readers forever.
A classic epitome of this sort is "Sense and Sensibility."
Elinor Dashwood - heroine of the novel "Sense and Sensibility",how to limit her within this little description. Her strenuous attributes, excellence in handling all with utter civility, outpours the extract of nobility of womanhood in a glimpse.
Marianne Dashwood is her sister. Marianne is quite opposite to Elinor. Elinor is patient,matured in handling situation and people, where as Marianne is spontaneous in judging,likewise falling in love.
Willoughby,a person who fails to notice himself, often falls in love with numerous pretty maidens and Marianne is added to the list and this pairing was heavily condemned by Elinor. (And such was her witty spirit).
Girls with their sweet mother Mrs .Dashwood happily reside in a cottage at Barton. Undescribable is their bonding and simple textured life style. Finding a prosperous match was the only goal set to them,by then all hazardous things happen, Willoughby engaged with Marianne was considered to be the greatest fortune by Mrs.Dashwood (which was highly condemned by Elinor)as Marianne lacks to see the intense nature of Willoughby.She easily gets infatuated with him.
On the flip side,she learns the fact that he betrayed her , once after he marries Sophia only for the benefit of two thousand pounds a year. She regrets for her choice and decision taken,as an outcome she unanimously loses her colorful spirit.
Elinor Dashwood who is very intellectual in her choice and moving with people, falls for Edward Ferrar who on the other side got engaged to Lucy. This engagement remains a mystery to the entire acquaintance.
Rather it was easily explained to Elinor by Lucy herself which has nothing to affect Elinor's composed self. She handles it with complete ease. And then evolves the complete frame of Elinor to guide Marianne. Realizing her eccentric self,Marianne tries to reframe herself for the welfare of the Dashwood family...
Mrs.Jennings is such a lovely creation of Austen. A prosperous being with contented heart who always showers greater concern to her acquaintances never fails to notice Ms. Dashwoods' too.
She is a beloved for the entire crew. Her association with Ms.Dashwoods' is highly electrifying. She supports Ms.Dashwoods' to out run their monotonous , bothering life then and there. Colorful balls and parties where organised by Mrs.Jennings to make their days much more scintillating.
Life take its turn,thereby these girls too happen to visit places and John Dashwood,an unworthy money minded puppet in Mrs.John Dashwoods' hand,highly ignores his sisters thereby insists them to find their men whensoever he gets a chance to meet them in town. That was the only possible way for him to support his sisters. The prosperity of their father Mr.Dashwood was privileged to his son John Dashwood whereas the girls are left without a penny to serve.
Though the girls with greater civility,nobility and warm hearts get their fate tuned and Marianne finally finds her apt man Colonel Brandon. Elinor marries Edward Ferror. (Lucy deceives Edward and just for the sake of leading a luxurious life marries Robert Ferrar,brother of Edward Ferrar who later loses all his share from his family). As their warm hearts,they are happily married to their loved ones and this forms the climax of the beautiful story Sense and Sensibility.
You can never escape the love traps laid by Austen and vivid descriptions lure you without any doubt.
The classic frame brings in beautiful England to picture.
The strong convictions,values,ethical droppings,genuine participation in the livelihood,respecting emotional variations and what not reside inside the insight of Austen's Elinor Dashwood and other damsels.
Let's travel in time through the lens of Elinor Dashwood to the pasture landscape and utmost civil side of England.
Bundle of wonders just within 450 pages is way too much to hold.
Sense and Sensibility reminded me of "Little Women" and watching the recent movie version helped me to picturize these girls in their ethnic and antique settings so easily.
